Obituary

Richard Dick Baran, 72, of Monessen, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 in Monongahela Valley Hospital. A son of the late Michael R. and Irene Rowan Baran, he was born in Donora on March 13, 1940. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Monessen, the Monessen Firemen’s Club No. 1, the Belle Vernon Moose Lodge 209, where he had been a governor and legionnaire, the Russian Club of Pricedale, and the Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659. A resident of Monessen since 1969, he had been employed at the former National Tube and retired in 2004 from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was a U.S. Marine veteran. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Patricia Pierallini Baran, one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Dr. James Carroll of Ann Arbor, Mich., one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Deborah Baran of Baldwin, four grandchildren, Brendan and Joshua Carroll and Elliot and Dorian Baran, one brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Mary Ann Baran of Ridgeland, S.C., one uncle, George Baran of Donora, one aunt, Hazel Madderom of Chicago, Ill., one cousin, Mary Ann Tonini, two good friends, Calvin Dils and Don Maglet, and his dog, Bailey. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, INC., 700 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Ken Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The family extends their sincere thanks to Michelle Popovich, from Amedisys Health, for her comfort and care.
