Richard Dick Baran; 72; of Monessen; passed away Thursday; Dec. 20; 2012 in Monongahela Valley Hospital. A son of the late Michael R. and Irene Rowan Baran; he was born in Donora on March 13; 1940. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Monessen; the Monessen Firemen’s Club No. 1; the Belle Vernon Moose Lodge 209; where he had been a governor and legionnaire; the Russian Club of Pricedale; and the Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659. A resident of Monessen since 1969; he had been employed at the former National Tube and retired in 2004 from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was a U.S. Marine veteran. Survivors include his wife of 49 years; Patricia Pierallini Baran; one daughter and son-in-law; Susan and Dr. James Carroll of Ann Arbor; Mich.; one son and daughter-in-law; Robert and Deborah Baran of Baldwin; four grandchildren; Brendan and Joshua Carroll and Elliot and Dorian Baran; one brother and sister-in-law; Paul and Mary Ann Baran of Ridgeland; S.C.; one uncle; George Baran of Donora; one aunt; Hazel Madderom of Chicago; Ill.; one cousin; Mary Ann Tonini; two good friends; Calvin Dils and Don Maglet; and his dog; Bailey. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY; INC.; 700 Broad Avenue; Belle Vernon. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Ken Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
