Obituary

Jack N. Monack, 82, of Sun City Hilton Head, S.C., died on Aug. 31, 2010. Mr. Monack was born in Charleroi on Aug. 15, 1928, to Jules S. and Emma Jane Nelson Monack. He was a graduate of Charleroi High School, Billard Naval Academy, West Virginia Wesleyan College, and was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a special agent in the Counter Intelligence Corps. Mr. Monack resided in Columbus, Georgia, Monessen, Clairton, and Rostraver Township, Wheeling, West Virginia, St. Louis, Miss., and Van Wert, Ohio, where he enjoyed a successful career in management with U.S. Steel, Alexander Proudfoot, Continental Can Corporation, and eventually retiring from Sunoco Products Company in 1993. In addition to being an avid golfer, he was active in numerous charitable and service organizations throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 57 years, Carol Beatty Monack. Mr. Monack is survived by two daughters, Susan Monack Kreitzer (Doug), of Delaware, Ohio, and Nancy Monack Armstrong (Paul), of Dyersburg, Tenn., two grandsons, David Kreitzer (Cory), of Normal, Ill., and Michael Ream Kreitzer (Deveau), of Louisville, Ken., two stepgranddaughters, Angie Armstrong Singleton (Jody), of Dyersburg, Tenn., and Anissa Armstrong Clement (Harrell), of Alamo, Tenn., and two great-grandchildren, and five step great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister, Wanda Monack, of Charleroi, and a devoted friend, Joan Shields, of Sun City Hilton Head, S.C. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, INC., (724) 929-5300, 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon. www.fergusonfuneralhomeandcrematory.com. A funeral service will be in the funeral home on Friday, Sept. 3, at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Jim Linn Jr., pastor of the First Christian Church of Charleroi officiating.
