Obituary

Samuel DeSimone, 89, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Belle Vernon, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009. A son of the late Joseph and Mary Nicoletti DeSimone, he was born in Belle Vernon on July 21,1920. Sam was a proud member of the Belle Vernon High School football team and was named All County several years. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served on a P.T. boat from 1943 to 1945 and had played in the Belle Vernon Drum and Bugle Corp. He had served as secretary of the school board of the North Versailles School District. Formerly of Belle Vernon, he had resided in Texas since 1986, resided in Florida for the previous seven years and had also resided in Versailles Borough and Green Valley. He was a member of St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church of Houston and the East Pittsburgh V.F.W. Sam retired in 1979 after 39 years with Westinghouse in East Pittsburgh. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Jane Simcic DeSimone, two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Don Gillespie of Monongahela and Elizabeth and John Guy of West Newton, three sons and two daughters-in-law, Thomas and Stephanie DeSimone of Aliquippa, Ronald and Robin DeSimone and Donald DeSimone, all of Bellaire, Texas, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Theresa Checchi and Rose Traversari, and two brothers, Tony and Ernest DeSimone. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 724-929-5300, 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon. www.fergusonfuneralhomeandcrematory.com. A blessing service will be in the funeral home on Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m., with the Rev. Lawrence Manchas as celebrant. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed in the funeral home Friday at 3 p.m., led by the members of St. Sebastian parish.
