Helen Soroka Gaber Evansky,of Forest Hills, age 88, on Tuesday, April 5, 2016. Beloved wife of William Evansky for 12 years and also the late Jack W. Gaber for 44 years. Loving mother of Marilyn (the late John) Maskaly of Forest Hills. Dear grandmother of Alexandra Maskaly. Sister of Martha (Ron) Zeli of Belle Vernon, Vera (Tony) Trona of Canonsburg, Stevanna (late Michael) Lis of Aliquippa and also 4 sisters and 3 brothers who preceded her in death. Step-mother of Fr. William J Evansky of Ambridge and Kera (David) White of TN. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Helen was a devout Orthodox Christian, dedicated church worker, pierogi maker and member of St. John Orthodox Church in East Pittsburgh. Helen took great pride in her home cooking with pierogis being a specialty. She was also very active in a fund raising and outreach ministry for the Orthodox Diocese of Alaska. Helen and her hearty laugh will be greatly missed by her family. Friends welcome Thursday 2-8pm at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home, 700 Linden Ave. at Cable, East Pittsburgh, PA 15112, 412-824-8800 where a Parastas will be prayed at 7 p.m. Helen's Funeral Service will be in the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church in Belle Vernon on Friday at 10 a.m. Helen will be laid to rest in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
