James E.Matson;91;of Belle Vernon;Rostraver Twp.;died Friday;June 15;2012 at 5:25 am at Excela Health;Westmoreland Hospital;Greensburg. Born May 21;1921 in Charleroi;PA he was the son of the late Bert E.and the late Violet Fleming Matson. Mr.Matson was a resident of Belle Vernon for the past 64 years;was a member of the Community of Christ Church;Charleroi and was retired from Whg-Pgh Steel;Allenport Plant;where he worked as an electrician. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the US Army Air Corps.;member of the Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 member of United Steel Workers of America Local 1187 where he was past recording secretary and served on the grievance committee;member and past president of the Mon Valley AFLCIO;enjoyed bowling;was an avid hunter and fisherman;playing golf in various leagues and was involved in youth baseball. He is survived by his wife Catherine Manack Matson to whom he was married 68 years;son & daughter in law James E.& Wife Jean Matson Jr.of Greensburg;two daughters & sons in law Kathleen & John Crane of Bridgeport;WV;Patricia & Donald Serwinski of Farmington;six grandchildren Shelly McDonald;Johnny Crane;Christopher Serwinski;Ami Halam;Jeffrey Matson;Melissa Matson;five great-grandchildren Krystian Serwinski;Walker McDonald;Connor McDonald;Aven Crane;Landon Matson;two step great grandchildren Lauren VanBremen and Travis VanBremen. He is preceded in death by five brothers Eugene Matson;Ralph Matson;Robert Matson;Clarence Matson;Dayton Fleming and a sister Ruth Haluschak. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations;Family Owned and Operated;626 Broad Avenue;Belle Vernon 724-929-6183. Services will be held Monday at the Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations at 11:30 AM with the Pastor Kathy Ross of Community of Christ Church;Charleroi officiating. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The family suggest memorial contributions be made in memory of James E.Matson to Community of Christ Church;Charleroi.
