He was born September 25; 1922 in Gillespie; Washington Twp; a son of the late Thomas Stewart and the late Jessie Gardner Stewart.. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII; member of Fayette City Alliance Church and Tri County Masonic Lodge # 252; Donora; Pa. He was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Co.

Surviving are his son; William M Stewart and wife Sandy; of Fayette City; daughter; Linda Astle and husband John;of Fayette City; brother; Eugene K Stewart; of Fayette City; brother; Willis J Stewart; of Perryopolis; grandson; Chet Burnside; granddaughter; Jennifer Burnside Richter; grandson; William A Stweart; grandson; Ryan Astle; great-granddaughter; Ashley Ayre; great-grandson; Keith Richter and great-granddaughter; Mackenzie Astle.

He was preceded in death by two brothers; Thomas and James Stweart; sister; Agnes Coldren.
