Benjamin E. Yates, 87, of Fayette City, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, at home. The son of the late Benj amin Franklin and Ada Leona Fields Yates, he was born in North Charleroi on Jan. 16, 1938. A lifelong resident of Fayette City, he was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed stock car races. Ben had been employed for 29 ½ years as a train engineer for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Monessen plant, and later at Belle Vernon Area School District in the custodial department. Survivors include a daughter, Holly Buchanan of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin and JoAnn Yates of Star Junction; and three grandchildren, Joshua (Amber) Yates, Summer (Daniel) Epps and Gurney (fiancée Hannah) Buchanan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Louise Moats Yates, on Jan. 10, 2025. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, in the funeral home with Pastor Dan Waite officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
