Edith M. Brown; 88; of California; Pa.; went to be with the Lord Monday; Feb. 4; 2013. A daughter of the late Frank and Mabel Elsom Bilton; she was born in England April 6; 1924. A resident of California; Pa.; for the past 11 years; she had previously resided in Speers Hill. Edith had served in the Salvation Army in England in her early years. She was a member of the Speers United Methodist Church; where she sang in the choir for 60 years; taught Sunday School for over 35 years and hosted many funeral and wedding dinners. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women; both local and district; the Charleroi Area Church Women serving three years as president; and the 8th Air Force Historical Society. She also collected for mission projects; helped with the food bank; knitted many sweaters and booties for babies; collected used stamps for a mission in India; served the Meals on Wheels program; enjoyed exercising and working the desk at the Center in the Woods and loved baking cakes. She once attended the United Methodist Church World Annual Conference in London. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law; Janet and Ken Vandermer of Irwin; one son and two daughters-in-law; Robert F. and Sandy Brown of Charlotte; N.C. and Cheryl Brown of Tampa; Fla.; one sister; Lilian Richardson; one brother and sister-in-law; Norman and Doreen Bilton; all of England; six grandchildren; Molly Detwiler and her husband; Cris; Christopher Brown and his wife; Brenda; Kevin Vandermer and his wife; Amy; Jill Palmer; David Brown and his wife; Jennifer; and Jenny Jegerlehner and her husband; Lukas; and eight great-grandchildren; Mason Vandermer; Erin; Michael and Laura Brown and Abigail; Sophia and Nathanael Palmer and Casey Detwiler. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband; Thomas A. Brown on Nov. 27; 2001; one son; T. Royce Brown in 2012; and one sister; Lina Brooks in 1991.
