Obituary

Shirley M. Como, 77, of North Belle Vernon, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at her home. A daughter of the late Catherine Alice Butler and John R. Wagner, she was born in Donora, Dec. 24, 1930. Shirley was a member of First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon, the United Methodist Women, the Ruth Circle, and had been a volunteer for the Mon Valley Literacy Council. She graduated from the former Donora High School in 1948, and had resided in Belle Vernon for the past 56 years. Shirley worked in the credit department of the former Montgomery Ward Co. in Donora and then in Fort Worth, Texas, where she transferred to follow her husband's Air Force service. In the early '60s, she also worked as secretary to the board of the former North Belle Vernon School District. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra E. Como, of North Belle Vernon, two nephews, David Boyd, of Lantana, Fla., and Robert Boyd, of East Stroudsburg, a niece, Joni Boyd, and a grandniece, Jasmine Boyd, both of Clermont, Fla. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ross E. Como, in 1993, her daughter, Cynthia Ann Como, in 1954, and her brother, Wayne G. Boyd. There will be no public visitation or funeral services. Graveside services and interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
