Helen Annette Schwartz, 91, formerly of Monessen, died peacefully on Monday, June 6, 2016 at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Gibsonia. Born on July 19, 1924 to Steve and Justine Garshnick Vlasich, Helen’s family included a brother, Robert Vlasich, and a sister, Agnes Gilmore (husband Frank), all now deceased. She graduated from Belle Vernon High School in 1941 and worked briefly as a bookkeeper at Leighty Steen Realty, then as a glassware inspector at Corning Glass during World War II. After marrying the love of her life, Perry Schwartz (now deceased), Helen did bookkeeping for the family business (Standard Physicians Supply Company in North Belle Vernon) while raising three daughters. In addition to being a loving, attentive Mom, Helen will be remembered as a caring and generous friend. Her subtle dry wit could be counted on to bring a touch of humor to any occasion. An enthusiastic member of several card clubs, she enjoyed the opportunity to host club nights on occasion. She took up golf later in life and travelled with Perry on a number of couples golf-getaways. Working with fabrics, creating quilts and customized apparel for friends and family members was another way she shared her love. Helen is survived by her three daughters: Patricia Henriquez (husband Jack) of Allentown, PA, Debra Achen (husband Donn) of Monterey, CA, and Tracey Deal of Poway, CA. She is also survived by two grandsons and four great-grandchildren: Eric Henriquez (son Jack and daughter Emerson), and Ryan Henriquez (wife Jennifer, twin daughters Harlow and Roma).
