Frank William Mazzei; 85; of Rostraver Township; Belle Vernon; died on Tuesday; August 10; 2010; at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Mildred Knaus Mazzei. Frank was the son of the late Angelo and Maria Cardamone Mazzei; and was born in North Belle Vernon on May 10; 1925. He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic church; and a Fourth Knight in the Knights of Columbus Belle Vernon Council 3026. Frank was a stellar athlete and lifelong sports enthusiast; excelling in both football and basketball. In the fall of 2000; Frank’s football accomplishments were recognized when he was inducted into the inaugural class of the Belle Vernon Area Football Hall of Fame. Frank was happy to share his basketball knowledge while coaching the St. Sebastian Youth Basketball Team for several years. Frank retired from the Allenport Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel after 37 years of dedicated service as a craneman and member of the United Steelworkers Local 1187. After retiring from Wheeling-Pittsburgh; Frank worked as a bartender at the family owned Foster House; in Belle Vernon; where he was fondly known to all as Uncle Frank. In addition; Frank worked for many years with his brother Dominic and other family members to provide Belle Vernon residents with fresh milk; eggs; and corn from Mazzei’s farm. Family was first in Frank’s life. He was a cherished father; grandfather; and great-grandfather; and will be missed by all who loved him. Survivors include his wife of 65 years; Millie Knaus Mazzei; three sons; Jim Mazzei and wife; Helga; of Middletown; Conn.; Frank Mazzei and wife; Bonnie; of Hollidaysburg; and Joel Mazzei; of Belle Vernon; two daughters; Sharon and husband; Dan Mochnaly; of Belle Vernon; and Michele Mazzei and husband; Scott Brooks; of Silver Spring; Md.; 11 grandchildren; Christina and Eric Mazzei; of Middletown; Conn.; Daniel Mochnaly and his wife; Mindy; of Stockdale; Patrick Mochnaly; of Los Angeles; Christian Mochnaly and his wife; Ashley; of Allenport; Melissa Gates and her husband; Brian; of Johnstown; Joshua; Jacob; and Angela Mazzei; of Hollidaysburg; and Benjamin and Ethan Brooks; of Silver Spring; Md.; three great- grandchildren; Cassie and Dylan Heidecker; of Middletown; Conn.; and Jacob Thompson; of Stockdale; brother; Dominic Mazzei and wife; Martha; of Belle Vernon; two sisters; Theresa Sanino; of Huntingtown; Md.; and Anita Sefchok; of Belle Vernon; and numerous nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by three brothers; Pete; Angelo; and John Mazzei; and three sisters; Josephine Marasco; Sue Touche; and Catherine Doenges. Friends will be received on Friday; Aug. 13; from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME; 626 Broad Ave.; Belle Vernon. A prayer service will be held on Saturday; Aug. 14; at 9 a.m. in the funeral home; followed by a 9:30 Funeral Mass in St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery. Parish Rosary will be held on Friday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. The Knights of Columbus Council 3026 will conduct services Friday at 7 p.m.
