Eugene R. Green, 90, of Belle Vernon, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 2, 2016 in UPMC Mercy Hospital. A son of the late George and Clara Green, he was born in Greensburg on June 9, 1926. He was a member of the Belle Vernon Church of the Nazarene and the Belle Vernon American Legion, Post 659. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a railroader, retiring in 1991. He enjoyed woodworking in his spare time. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Vernon Smith of Belle Vernon, one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Marianne Green of Pittsburgh, three sisters, Betty Jackson of Charleroi, Margaret Whaley of Anchorage, AK and Beverly Glover of Belle Vernon, one brother, Paul Green of Bridgeville, a brother-in-law, Vaughn Braddock of West Brownsville, four grandchildren, Paul Green, Vernon (Stacey) Smith, Melissa (Andrew) McGee, and David Smith and six great-grandchildren, Justin, Tanner, Hailey and Elena Smith and Eilis and Aine McGee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mercy V. Braddock Green on May 17, 2007 and a sister, Judy Green Boulanger in 1969. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday, August 5 at 10 A.M. with Rev. Michael Beckley officiating. Entombment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The members of the American Legion, Post 659 will meet in the funeral home to hold services at 7 P.M. Thursday.
