George W. Diethorn; 92; of Belle Vernon; went to be with the Lord on Monday; April 2; 2012; in Monongahela Valley Hospital. A son of the late George and Teresa Funk Diethorn; he was born in North Belle Vernon on Oct. 23; 1919. He was a member; elder and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon; member; past president and Melvin Jones recipient of the Belle Vernon Lions Club; a former North Belle Vernon councilman and; in the 1960s; served as a scoutmaster for several years. George served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired after 42 years of service with the Peoples Natural Gas Co. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law; Sharon and Stephen Morgan; with whom he made his home; and Candace and Richard Townsend; of Manassas; Va.; one son and daughter-in-law; George and Cynthia Diethorn; of Rostraver Township; three stepdaughters and two stepsons-in-law; Linda and Ronald DeZardo; of Monessen; Janice and Frank Garofalo; of Greensburg; and Tammy Matay; of Belle Vernon; one sister; Mildred Allfree; of Charleroi; one brother; Walter Diethorn; of Belle Vernon; seven grandchildren; Becky (John) Rathway; of Rostraver Township; Beth Ann (James) Stokes; of Katy; Texas; Stephen (Andrea) Morgan; of Rostraver Township; David (Kim) Humphries; of Catlett; Va.; Jason (Diana) Humphries; of Manassas; Va.; Brandon Diethorn; of Pittsburgh; and Mark Diethorn; of Rostraver Township; eleven great-grandchildren; Brittany; Bria and Jacob Rathway; Alex and Matthew Stokes; Stephanie and Brennan Morgan; Madison and Hunter Humphries and Emma and Ally Humphries; and four stepgreat-grandchildren; Mitchell; Elizabeth; Max and Luke Durigon. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his first wife of 56 1/2 years; Margaret White Diethorn on March 30; 1998; his second wife; Dorothy Murin Diethorn on Nov. 6; 2009; three sisters; Catherine Boltze; Phyllis Sabol and Evelyn McManus; and two brothers; Lionel and Dennis Diethorn. George enjoyed life; being with people and always lived his life to the fullest. The officers and members of the First Presbyterian Church will meet in the funeral home Wednesday at 7 p.m. to hold services; followed by the Belle Vernon Lions Club services at 7:30 p.m.
