Obituary

Steve M. Semancik, 94, of Abingdon, Va., formerly of Belle Vernon, Washington Township, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Hospice House, Bristol, Tenn. Born June 13, 1918, in Wickhaven, he was the son of the late Michael P. and Elizabeth Gurbal Semancik. Mr. Semancik lived with his son in Abingdon, Va., for the past five years. He was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Jednotta Slovak Union. He had worked as a coal miner and carpenter and was devoted to his work. The last surviving member of his family, he is survived by a daughter, Diane Semancik, son and daughter-in-law, Stephen D. and Peggy Semancik of Abingdon, Va., brother-in-law, Oscar Kluh of Potomac, Md., three granddaughters, Vicky Andrew and husband, Scott, of Bethel Park, Helena Glaneman and husband, John, of Carroll Township and Elizabeth Semancik White and husband, Brian, of Atlanta, Ga., seven great-grandchildren, Tyler Andrew, Kendra Andrew, Natalie Glaneman, John Glaneman Jr., Sarah Glaneman, Fiona Elizabeth White and Annabel Avery White. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, whom he dearly loved. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margarette Moskal Semancik on Feb. 28, 2007, seven brothers, Albert, John, Andrew, Michael, Frank, Anthony and Joseph Semancik, and two sisters, Mary Miller and Julia Kluh. Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATIONS, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183. Prayer service will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Roger A. Statnick, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery with several nephews and family members serving as pall bearers.
