Alex F. Butchie Basits Jr.; 75; of Belle Vernon; Washington Township; died Monday; May 21; 2012; at 7:12 a.m. at Shadyside Hospital; Pittsburgh. Born Dec. 1; 1936; in Belle Vernon; he was the son of the late Alex F. Basits Sr.; and Evelyn G. Chiplasky Basits. Mr. Basits was a resident of Washington Township and was Protestant by faith. Mr. Basits was a retired school bus driver from the Belle Vernon Area School District; a veteran; having served in the U.S. Air Force; and member of the Belle Vernon Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 209; Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 and the East Belle Vernon Athletic Assoc. He was a very dedicated husband and father and loved his family greatly. He also enjoyed trips to the casinos. He is survived by his wife; Mary Ann Fryske Basits; to whom he would have been married 45 years on June 9; son; Lex Basits; of Chengdu; China; daughter; Susan Basits; of Pittsburgh; sister; Mary Lou Brewer; of Belle Vernon; and three grandchildren; Shayne; Patrick and John. He was preceded in death by his daughter; Laura Ann Aiello; and a sister; Betty Jane Simpson. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. in the PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATIONS; Family Owned and Operated; 626 Broad Ave.; Belle Vernon; (724) 929-6183. Services will be held Thursday in Parzynski Funeral Home and Cremations at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Donald A. Bowers; of the First Christian Church of Belle Vernon; officiating. The Belle Vernon American Legion will conduct services Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. and the Belle Vernon Moose at 7:45 p.m.; both in the funeral home.
