Roy R. Gates; 95; of Bentleyville; formerly of Belle Vernon; died Thursday; Dec. 25; 2008. He was a resident of Thorpe’s Personal Care Home in North Charleroi. A son of the late Curtis and Hilda Smock Gates; he was born in Monessen on June 29; 1913. Roy was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon; the Pennsylvania National Guard in his younger years and retired from the Monessen plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company. He also was a farmer for several years in the Bentleyville area and an avid bowler. Survivors include his wife of 70 years; Doris Jane Ramsey Gates; who also resides in Thorpe’s Personal Care Home; one son and daughter-in-law; Russell L. and Mary Gates; of Bentleyville; one granddaughter; Lisa M. Leach and husband Daniel; and two great-grandchildren; Hunter D. and Hannah M. Leach; all of Bentleyville; and several nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by two brothers; Curtis and Earl Gates.
