Obituary

Anthony P. Semancik Sr., 81, of South Orange, N.J., formerly of Fayette City, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, in Runnells Specialized Hospital, Berkley Heights, N.J. Born Feb. 17, 1928, in Washington Township, he was the son of the late Michael P. and Elizabeth (Gurbal) Semancik. He was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Belle Vernon, having previously been a lifelong member of Holy Spirit Church in Fayette City before its closing. Mr. Semancik was retired from the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Coke Plant, where he was employed for 49 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of Fayette City American Legion Post No. 484. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Anthony P. Jr. and Charlene Semancik, of South Orange, two brothers, Steve and Joseph Semancik, of Belle Vernon, and one daughter and son-in-law, Julia and Oscar Kluh, of Maryland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann M. (Sobek) Semancik, on Dec. 2, 2002, five brothers, Albert, Andrew, Michael, Frank Sr. and John Semancik, and one sister, Mary Miller. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon (724-929-6183). A Prayer Service will be held Monday, Feb. 23, at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Sebastian R.C. Church with the Rev. Lawrence L. Manchas, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. On Sunday, members of St. Sebastian Parish will pray the rosary for the departed soul of Anthony P. Semancik Sr. at 3 p.m., and Fayette City American Legion Post No. 484 will conduct services at 7 p.m., both in the funeral home.
