It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our mom Dorothy (Semancik) Wozniak Schmidt, 85, of Fayette City, Pa on Saturday, October 12, 2024, in Jefferson Hospital. A daughter of the late Andrew and Johanna (Tordy) Semancik, she was born in N. Charleroi on July 30, 1939.
Dorothy was a graduate of Rostraver High School, class of 1957. She worked many years in the restaurant and retail business. After residing in New Jersey, she returned to her hometown in 1974 when she started working at the Belle Vernon Kmart as a store greeter, until moving to the home improvement center where she most enjoyed working alongside her nephew Dougie. She retired from Kmart after over 25 years.
Dorothy attended Char-Belle Free Methodist Church in Belle Vernon, "God is good" she would always say. She had such a kind soul, a constant smile, endless hugs and kisses (no one got away without a hug!) and her registered trademark on her cards to family and friends, a smiley face. She enjoyed spending as much time with her family, especially her grandkids. She truly enjoyed cooking and baking and will be remembered for her apricot and nut rolls, Halupki and her canning, especially canned pickles, so good we ate them at breakfast!
Mom is survived by her four children, Ronald (Lora) Wozniak of Elco, David Wozniak of Belle Vernon, Michael (Robin) Wozniak of Stockdale and Dorothy Ann Wozniak (Carol Wagner) of Harrisburg, a stepson, Todd Schmidt of Perryopolis, her sister Barbara (James) Deutsch of Allenport, her brothers Andrew (Louise) Semancik of Delaware and Dennis Semancik of New Cumberland, Pa; nine grandkids, Ronald (Desiree), David, Brandon (Anne), Scott (Rachel), Michael (Shannon), Stephanie, Ashley, AJ and Shane (Molly), 14 great grandkids, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving “handsome” husband William (Bill) R. Schmidt on February 24, 2017, and a stepson, Brett Schmidt.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Dorothy's life on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the Ferguson Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 700 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon. 724-929- 5300.
