Obituary

Joan L. Peters, 86, of Belle Vernon, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 in Mon Valley Hospital. A daughter of the late James and Adda Gibson Sterner, she was born in Belle Vernon on September 16, 1931. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon, Joan was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Belle Vernon. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and always put her family before herself. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Lynn of Fayette City and Karen Monack of Belle Vernon; a daughter-in-law, Shelley Peters of Belle Vernon; two sons-in-law, William Pawluk of Donora and James Monack of Belle Vernon; 11 grandchildren, Laurie Mortenson of Gresham, OR, William (Kim) Pawluk of Pittsburgh, Michael Pawluk of Pittsburgh, David Tyrpin of Bunlevel, NC, Mark C. Tyrpin of Brownsville, Jimmy (Missy) Monack of Fayette City, Jamie Monack, Nicole (Alan) Ashcraft, Ashley Monack, Robbie Peters, and Evan Peters, all of Belle Vernon; 14 great-grandchildren, Dawson Mortenson, Cienna Mortenson, Chloe Mortenson, Trisan Tyrpin, Trinity Tyrpin, Aveen Tyrpin, Alan Tyrpin, Tyler Monack, Allie Monack, Gaige Chipps, Brooklynn Chipps, Braelynn Chipps, Mason Lucy, and Jase Ashcraft and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert J. Peters, Sr. on December 31, 1991; a son Robert J. Peters, Jr. in 2013; two daughters, Bobbi Rae Monack in 1997 and Suzanne Pawluk in 2016; eight brothers, Robert, Clifford, Mervin, Donald, Roy, Lewis, William, and Alvin Sterner; and two sisters, Alverda Helmken and Glenna Richwine. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday in the Ferguson Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 700 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon. 724-929-5300 www.FergusonFuneralHomeAndCrematory.com. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM in the First Baptist Church, Short Street, Belle Vernon with Pastor Earl Rosenbalm officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
