Obituary

 

Hazel Ayers, 98, of Belle Vernon, passed away Friday, Jan. 10 2014, at Westmoreland Manor. Hazel was born April 13, 1915, in Portage, a daughter of the late William and Mary (Byron) Horan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Carlson, four brothers, William, James, Joseph and Robert Horan, and two sisters, Irene Wiseman and Patricia Smith. Hazel was active in politics, having served as a committeewoman in the city of Monessen for 36 years. She also belonged to the Red Hat Society and was an avid card player. She is survived by a son, Phillip Carlson and wife, Rita, of Houston, Texas, a daughter, Beverly Carlson Seroka, of Belle Vernon, grandsons, Donald Seroka and wife, Michelle, of Belle Vernon, Joseph Seroka and wife, Kathy, of Canonsburg, and Phillip Carlson Jr. and wife, Aspesia, of Oklahoma City, Okla., granddaughter, Kari Carlson and partner, Jessica, of Houston, Texas, great-grandchildren, Brett Seroka and Gina, of Belle Vernon, Samantha Seroka, of Canonsburg, Carter Seroka, of Canonsburg, Justin Battistone, of Belle Vernon, Jill Hoskos and husband, Bryan, of Bethel Park, and Molly Hartman, of Belle Vernon, great-great-grandchildren, Giovannah Seroka, of Belle Vernon, Hunter Battistone, of Belle Vernon, and Deryk Hosko, of Bethel Park, a sister, Rosemarie Knox, of Charleroi, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, in the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon. Additional viewing will be held from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at which time a blessing service will be held, in the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial, in St. Sebastian Church, with Monsignor Roger A. Statnick as celebrant. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
