Obituary

Dorothy Ivy Vickers Leasure, of Belle Vernon (Lynnwood), passed away peacefully in her home with her loving family at her side on Friday, July 15, 2011. Born June 14, 1920, in Derby, England, she was the only child of John Thomas Vickers and Gladys Revell Vickers Bloice. A homemaker, Dorothy studied nursing in London, England, and worked treating injured civilians and allied troops during World War II. Her patients referred to her as 'Sunshine'. She came to the United States after marrying her husband, George Leasure, and became a U.S. citizen in 1951. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon, belonging to the United Methodist Women, Ruth Circle and the Eastern Star Lodge 205 (Monessen). She is survived by her husband of 66 years, George Leasure, whom she married May 16, 1945, three daughters, Mary, of Los Angeles, Penny, of Newport News, Linda Susan, of Belle Vernon, and three sons, Alan, of Atlanta, Chester, of Wiesbaden, Germany, Rodger, of Rostraver Township, ten grandchildren, Wil and Alicia, of Los Angeles, Brenda, Becky, Georgina, Shawna and Sam, of Belle Vernon, Alan Jr. and Larissa, of Atlanta and Robbie, of Wiesbaden, nine great-grandchildren, her cousin, Frank Coe and his wife, Kay, of England, and her brother-in-law, Ernest (Pete) Leasure and his wife, Fay, of West Virginia. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon. (724) 929-5300, www.fergusonfuneralhomeandcrematory.com. Funeral services will be in the First United Methodist Church on Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. David Zona officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
