Edward J. Gnoth, of Pleasant Hills, died Sunday morning, July 27, 2014, at Mercy Hospital. Born Dec. 1, 1918, in Yukon, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anne Gnoth. He graduated from Charleroi High School and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He later worked as an engineer with Bell Telephone Company. Edward enjoyed golfing, fishing, visiting the family camp in Clarion, gardening and working in the yard, traveling and visiting with family and friends. He was active in many civic and charity groups such as the Lions Club, Masons (was a past master at Charleroi Lodge No. 615 and a 50-year member of Pleasant Hills Lodge No. 509), American Legion Post No. 787 in Mars, Scottish Rite - Valley of Pittsburgh, Syria Shrine Temple, The Pioneers - Retired Bell Telephone Employees and Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Emily V. Gnoth; brother, Walter Gnoth; and sister, Martha Gnoth. He is survived by sister, Betty Gnoth; son, Edward Gnoth; two grandsons, Edward Gnoth and James Gnoth; and two great-grandsons, Caleb Gnoth and Caden Gnoth. A Masonic service is planned for 9:30 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, in Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church, 199 Old Clairton Road, Pleasant Hills, PA 15236. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 W. 8th St., Erie, PA 16505.
