Roland E. Shawley Jr., 70, of Belle Vernon, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 in Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital. A son of the Roland E. and Irene M. (Jones) Shawley Sr., he was born on September 26, 1955 in North Charleroi.
A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon, Roland was a member of the Mon Valley Football Official’s Association and enjoyed his daily Breakfast Club at Andy’s Exxon. He had been employed by U.S. Steel, Clairton works, for 9 years from 1974-1983 before beginning his nursing career, first at Shadyside Hospital and then at Mon Valley Hospital for over 20 years, retiring in 2011. Nicknamed ‘Rotor’, Roland enjoyed playing softball and was a PIAA softball official for over 20 years. He was a proud United States Air Force veteran, serving as Captain. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Roland enjoyed his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janet (Jolley) Shawley, a daughter, Nicole Winterbottom of Virginia Beach; two sons and daughters in-law, Scott and Melissa Shawley of Randolph, NY and Jason and Emily Shawley of Rostraver Twp.; six grandchildren, Trenton Winterbottom, Olivia Shawley, Travis Winterbottom, Addyson Shawley, Jackson Shawley, and Julianna Shawley, a sister, Nancy Turis of Rostraver Twp., and his mother in-law, Betty Jolley of Carrolltown, PA.
Friends will be received on Monday, April 27, 2026 from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. the Ferguson Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 700 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon. 724-929-5300. www.FergusonFuneralHomeandCrematory.com.
