Obituary

 

Garnet Irene Stephens Morris, 102, of Newell, passed away Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, in Monongahela Valley Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born Oct. 14, 1911, in Dickerson Run, daughter of the late Curtis James Stephens and the late Lillian Lynn Stephens. She was a member of the Newell United Methodist Church. Garnet was retired from California University of Pennsylvania, where she worked in the payroll department. Garnet resided in Newell her whole married life. She was a very proud and happy 102 year-old and never shied away from telling her age. Carol said her mom left their home only to come back to just a house, but with all the love her mother gave, it will someday be a home again. She was loved by all members of family, friends and neighbors. May God give her the peace her 102 years deserves. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Lee Morris of Newell, with whom she made her home, sister, Frances Stephens Lynn Vanderegrift, grandsons, Richard Lee Stevens and wife, Barbara, Carl Burton Stevens, Clyde Eugene Stevens and wife, Jamie, James Curtis Stevens and wife, Paula, Robert Allen Stevens and wife, Gwen, 17 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Morris, son, Richard Eugene Stevens, two brothers, Halton and Shalmer Stephens, and sister, Rita Stephens-Brandt. Friends will be received 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, in the ELEY-McCRORY FUNERAL HOME INC., 334 Main St., Fayette City, 724-326-5621,http://www.eleymccroryfuneralhome.com. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, in the funeral home with the Pastor Rob Rabenstein officiating. Interment will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery, Belle Vernon.
