Obituary

Charles Summers, 86, of Belle Vernon (Fairhope), died Monday, March 31, 2008, in Adult Assisted Living, Dunlevy. A lifelong resident of Fairhope (Washington Township, Fayette County), he was born Wednesday, March 8, 1922, a son of the late David Summers and the late Mary Wenia Summers. He served as chief and assistant chief of the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department, served on the Washington Township Water Authority, and was a life member of the Fairhope Rod & Gun Club. A brick mason by trade, Mr. Summers belonged to and retired from Local Union No. 9 Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Chapter 11, Washington, Pa. He contributed many hours of community service for the residents of Washington Township and the surrounding area. He is survived by two sons, Timothy (Janice) Summers, of Coal Center, and Charles (Wanda) Summers, of San Ysidro, N.M., five grandchildren, Lisa (Sam) Rocca, Jason (Sandra) Summers, Vicki (Brian) Ostermeyer, Shellie Pescetti and Charlene Summers, 10 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Nicholas, Malayna, Sammy, Cassandra, Jordan, Tyler, Rachelle, Sean and Zoey, one brother-in-law, John (Jean) Martin, of Roanoke, Va.,, and three sisters-in-law, Marge and Margie Summers, of Belle Vernon (Lynnwood), and Betty Tomasiak, of Donora. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Martin Summers, on August 23, 2004, and two brothers, David and Louis Summers. There was no public viewing, and private services were held for the family. Interment was in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the ELEY-McCRORY FUNERAL HOME INC., Fayette City.
