Obituary

Delbert Lee Hamer, 85, of Fayette City, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2016 in Mon Valley Hospital. A son of the late Samuel and Mildred Auther Hamer, he was born in Gillespie on September 25, 1931. Delbert was a lifelong resident of Fayette City and a member of the First Christian Church of Fayette City, Fayette City American Legion, and the Naomi Club. He worked as a craneman for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport Plant, until his retirement in 1993. Delbert served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Survivors include his ex-wife Shirley Hamer of Fayette City; three sons, Gregory, Douglas, and James Hamer all of Fayette City; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Cheryl D. (Ronald) Chiplaskey of Fayette City, Phyllis (John) Ritson of Lewes, DE, Vicki (Gregory) Acklin of Ruffsdale, Kathy Bialon of Fayette City with whom he made his home, and Darla (Jason) Kramer of Belle Vernon; one sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis (Richard) Robbins; 12grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Samuel Hamer and one sister Mary Morgan. Interment took place in Belle Vernon Cemetery with full military honors.
