Margaret Catherine (Daniero) Gilliland; 89; of Belle Vernon; died May 20; 2008; at the Monongahela Valley Hospital. She was born July 23; 1918; a daughter of the late Joseph and Susie Pelech Daniero; owners of the Belle Tavern nightclub in Belle Vernon years ago. Margaret and her husband Lewis Gilliland owned the Belle Tavern until the mid 1960s. Margaret was a Protestant by faith and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon. She attended California State University and held a degree in Elementary and Special Education. She taught at Central in Lowber; Madison in Grindstone; and ended her teaching career at Colonial Elementary School on Route 40 in Brownsville. There she worked for the Intermediate Unit 1; and considered working with special children the light of her life. She retired after 37 years of teaching at the age of 75. In addition to her teaching career; she attended the Feuster School of Beauty in Charleroi and worked with her sister Violet as a cosmetologist. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband Lewis in 1974 at the age of 58; her sisters; Rose and Violet; and brothers; George and Joseph. She is survived by her son; Lewis and grandson Gregori (Rocky) who reside in Fort Pierce; Fla. Also surviving are two brothers; James and wife Betty of Richmond; Va.; and Robert and wife Cathryn of Thousand Oaks; Calif. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who she dearly loved and all of whom were blessings to her. A celebration of life will be held for Margaret and her beloved late sister Violet Smith who resided with her for 13 years at the First United Methodist Church in Belle Vernon on Saturday; June 7; 2008; with Rev. David Zona officiating. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.; the time of services. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. A luncheon will be held in the church social room following interment.
