Obituary

Minnie Lee Yarbrough, 93, a long-time resident of North Belle Vernon, went to her eternal rest with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008. Born June 21, 1914, in Bessemer, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Mackie and Joe Williams. Ms. Minnie, as she was affectionately called, was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church, where she served as president of the Nurses Board and was in charge of the Kitchen Committee for many years. She worked for several years at the Mon Valley Health Center as a receptionist. Ms. Minnie had a ministry of her own making - she would send cards for all occasions and make telephone calls to all her acquaintances. This was a large part of her life. Left to celebrate her life are her three sons, Walter Nelson of Veradale, Wash., Ernest Robert Nelson, of Durham, N.C., and Lindsey Pete Yarbrough, of Belle Vernon, one sister, Ruth Hopsons, of Birmingham, Ala., 32 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and 25 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Ms. Minnie was preceded in death by her husbands, Lou Nelson Sr. and John Yarbrough Sr., one sister, Annie Jo Watts, three brothers, Charles Maddox, Ben Williams and Mack Henry Williams, three daughters, Joyce Yarbrough-Watson, Frances Nelson-Woodard and Mackie Carson-Carter, and three sons, Lou Nelson Jr., Ben Nelson and John Yarbrough Jr. Family and friends will be received Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. in Antioch Baptist Church, 945 Henry St., Belle Vernon, where funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 14, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Clifford Carter officiating. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the BEVERLY C. DRAPER FUNERAL HOME, 608 Sixth St., Monessen (724-684-6242).
