Obituary

Margaret "Midge" Hazuka Walters, 95 1/2, formerly of Speers and Charleroi, died Jan. 2, 2015, at Washington County Health Center, where she had resided since August 2014. Daughter of John and Anna Dudek Hazuka, "Midge" was born in Charleroi on June 20, 1919. She was the last surviving sibling of her large family. She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Steve, Frank, John, William and Paul; sisters, Mary Hazuka, Helen Drelick, Anna Rock, Steffie Mills and Elizabeth Pivovarnik; two infant siblings; husbands, Valentine Videlka, who died in 1947, and John Walters, who died in 2000; and son-in-law, Leo Behe, who died in 2000. She is survived by daughter, Lisa Behe of Tarentum; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews all over the USA. Midge was a longtime member of Speers United Methodist Church and was active for many years in the United Methodist Women, AARP, Gallivanters, Golden Agers Travel Club and other groups. She contributed several handmade worship items to the Speers Church, including a large framed Lord's Prayer tapestry. She was known around the Valley for her talks on the tradition of the "Chrismon Tree", which she and her husband, John, helped to create for the Speers Church. Midge enjoyed sewing, crocheting, bowling, volunteering and traveling. In her later years, she rediscovered the pleasures of reading novels. Friends will be received on Monday, Jan. 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the LEONARD M. PAVLIC FUNERAL HOME, 235 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi. The service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Speers United Methodist Church, 810 Jane Ave., Speers Hill, Charleroi, with interment to follow at the Belle Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Midge wanted memorial donations to be made to the Speers United Methodist Church or the John K. Tener Library in Charleroi.
