U.S. Navy LT. Peter Spiro "Battleship Pete" Turick,32,of 411 Wood St.,Belle Vernon,died Friday, Nov. 30,1990,in Belle Vernon. He was born Jan. 31,1958,in North Charleroi,a son of Katherine Kontaxes Turick Besedick of Belle Vernon and the late George Turick,who died July 10,1974. Mt. Turick had joined the U.S. Navy in 1976 after graduating from Belle Vernon Area High School the same year. He was a member of te U.S. Naval Institute's Statue of Liberty Ellis Island Foundation,U.S. Navy Memorial Plank Owner of the USS Iowa, Veterans Association of the USS Iowa,Icelandic Doman and Illustrious Crew of the USS Mississippi. Mt. Turick was also a member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church, Belle Vernon. In addition to his mother,survivors include his stepfather,Emil Besedick;four uncles,including,Andrew "Possum" Turick of Belle Vernon,Charles Turick of Carroll Township and John Turick of Louisiana;three aunts,two stepsisters,Rosann and Pamela;two stepbrothers,David and Nick and several cousins. In addition to his father,he was preceded in death by two brothers,William Thomas Pappas, in 1961,and Adam Turick,in 1963;his maternal grandprents,Peter Spiro and Mary Flora Kontaxes;and his uncle and godfather,Nicholas Kontaxes. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home,626 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon. Relatives and friends will gather at Holy Resurrection Church, Mary Street,Belle Vernon,for services Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. John Kluchko officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Holy Resurrection Church Edowment Fund. Tthe Leonard J. Parzynski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
