Obituary

Curtis Mitchell, 89, of North Belle Vernon, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, at 4:47 p.m. in Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington, Pa. He was born April 25, 1918, in Belle Vernon, a son of the late Roy and Bertha Mae Oliphant Mitchell. He was a lifelong resident of North Belle Vernon. Mr. Mitchell was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Belle Vernon and was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Monessen plant, where he was employed as a ladle crane operator. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Mitchell was a member of Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 and the Charleroi Archery Club. He is survived by his wife, Melba Pateri Mitchell, to whom he would have been married 64 years on Nov. 24, 2007, one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and George Magatz, of Monessen, one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Susan Mitchell, of Belle Vernon, one brother and sister-in-law, Don and Judy Mitchell, of Belle Vernon, one sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Lew Farkas, of Charleroi, four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Curtis L. Mitchell, two brothers, Roy and Ray Mitchell, and three sisters, Agnes Kulka, Esther Kistler and Florence Fagan. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon (724-929-6183). A prayer service will be held Monday, Nov. 19, at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Sebastian R.C. Church. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Members of St. Sebastian Church will pray the rosary on Sunday at 3 p.m. for the departed soul of Curtis Mitchell, and members of Belle Vernon American Legion 659 will conduct services at 7:30 p.m., both in the funeral home.
