Obituary

John C. Demko, 80, of Belle Vernon, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, peacefully, surrounded by his family, joining his recently departed wife with the Lord. A son of the late John E. and Anna Macheska Demko, he was born in Wickhaven on Aug. 22, 1929. John was a member of the Pricedale Union Church, the Belle Vernon Lions Club, the United Mine Workers of America and the M.E.M.A. A resident of Belle Vernon all of his adult life, he retired after 34 years at the Banning Mines and had assisted with the Mon Valley Toys for Tots program. Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Marjorie and Joseph W. Lopez of Belle Vernon, Mary Ann Demko of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Joni Lee and Gordon Pavtis of Richmond, Va., five grandchildren, Frank Lopez and wife Kristy, Laura Lorenzo and husband Martin, Joseph A. Lopez, all of Belle Vernon, Jonathan Pavtis and Jordan Pavtis, both of Richmond, Va., four great-grandchildren, Vincenzo and Grace Lopez, and Gianna and Tony Lorenzo, and a good friend of the family, Wally Fronzaglio of Donora. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Clark Demko, on Aug. 2, 2009, one sister, Anna Kussard, and one brother, Charles Demko. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 724-929-5300, 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon. www.fergusonfuneralhomeandcrematory.com. Funeral services will be in the funeral home Wednesday at 12:30 p.m., with Pastor James Mimidis officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The members of the Belle Vernon Lions Club will meet in the funeral home Tuesday at 7 p.m. to hold services.
