Obituary

Holmes Lazzaro, born in Fossa Italy, answered Jesus’ call to come home on Saturday October 13, 2007. Holmes graduated March 7, 1942 from United Aircraft Inc. located in Witchita, Kansas where he completed Aeronautical course training in sheet metal. Holmes also graduated from Air Service Command School- Civilian Mechanics Branch on February 13, 1943 as an Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic. Holmes was a Sergeant in the US Army Air Force. He was assigned to the 92nd Air Service Squadron. He was a veteran of World War II and earned the WW II victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Pacific Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars. While stationed in the Philippines, Holmes was responsible for the coordination of all activities in shop. He was in charge of making repairs on and replacements to glass windows and turret glass on fighter and bomber airships. His specialty was plexi-glass repair. Holmes tour of duty was from October 1, 1942 to November 21, 1945. Upon discharge, Holmes returned home and was owner and operator of Sunrise Inn Bar and Restaurant. In 1963, he was employed by United States Steel Corp. from which he retired. Holmes would have celebrated his 56th wedding anniversary to his loving wife Lena on December 3, 2007. Holmes is sadly missed by his wife, children and remaining siblings. Funeral mass was celebrated at St. Sebastian R.C. Church with the Rev. Lawrence L. Manchas V.F. Pastor as celebrant. Interment took place in Belle Vernon Cemetery with military honors.
