John S. ‘Jack’ Means; Jr.; 86; of Perryopolis died Friday; September 7; 2007 in Mercy Hospital; Pittsburgh. A son of the late John S.; Sr. and Ida Bennett Means; he was born in Newell on March 3; 1921. Jack was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon where he had served as an elder; the F. & A.M. Gummert Lodge 252; the Uniontown Lodge of Perfection; the Consistory and Syria Shrine; both of Pittsburgh. A resident of Perryopolis since 1952; he was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and retired in 1983 from the Allenport Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law; Rick and Pam Means of Sinnemahoning; one daughter; Denise Engle of Chalk Hill; two sisters; Gail Anderson of Columbus; GA and Norma Legg of Perryopolis; three grandchildren; Todd Means of Glenwood Springs; CO; Dr. John Ryan Means of Pittsburgh and Brittany Engle of Chalk Hill and a special friend and caregiver; Jackie Clawson. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his wife Dorcas A. Means on April 13; 1997 and one sister; Ruth Williams. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. in the Ferguson Funeral Home and Crematory; Inc.; www.fergusonfuneralhomeandcrematory.com; (724-929-5300); 700 Broad Avenue; Belle Vernon. Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 A.M. in the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Richard Klein officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The officers and members of the First Presbyterian Church will meet in the funeral home at 2 P.M. and the F. & A.M. Lodge 252 will meet at 7:00 P.M. to hold services; both on Sunday. In lieu of flowers; the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
