George H Belsick; 84; of Belle Vernon (Fairhope); passed away Thursday; Aug. 30; 2007; in Mon Valley Hospital Inc.; Carroll Township; following a lengthy illness. He was born Sept. 1; 1922; in Naomi; Washington Township; Fayette County; a son of the late Frank Belczyk and the late Mary Kuwada Belczyk. He was a member of Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church; Fayette City. George graduated from Marion High School in 1941 and entered the U.S. Army in 1942. He was a member of the 104th Infantry 414th Regiment Company E Timberwolf Division. His World War II experience took him through France; Belgium; Holland and Germany; where he received a battlefield commission as a 2nd lieutenant. His citations included a Bronze Star; Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster to the Bronze Star; Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge. After the conclusion of the war; George continued his military service with the Army Reserve; retiring in January 1967 with the rank of Major. He was a member of Charleroi VFW Post 167 and retired from Wheeling- Pittsburgh Steel; Monessen plant in 1983 with over 40 years of service. George enjoyed hunting; fishing; working on projects and spending time in his garden. He was a loving person who enjoyed his family and will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. He is survived by his son; Larry Belsick and wife Ruthie; and two daughters; Nancy Walko and husband Joe and Judy Walko; all of Belle Vernon; two brothers; Andrew Belsick and Jack Belczyk; both of Fairhope; five grandchildren; Kevin and Kristen Belsick; Michael Walko and wife Shannon; Melissa Porter and husband Bryan; and Joey Walko; one great-grandchild; Carly Walko. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his wife; Anna Belsick; in 2000; four brothers; Joseph; John; Mike and Stanley; and three sisters; Helen; Anna and Lena. Friends will be received in the ELEY-McCRORY FUNERAL HOME; 334 Main St.; Fayette City; on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday; Sept. 4; until noon; at which time a blessing service will take place with the Rev. Charles Esposito officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
