Obituary

Matthew E. Stefanick, 79, of North Belle Vernon, went to be with his wife in Heaven on Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at 4:50 p.m. in Mon Valley Hospital, Carroll Township. Born Sept. 11, 1927, in Fayette City, he was the son of the late Michael and Anna Nalepa Stefanick. A resident of North Belle Vernon, Mr. Stefanick was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, Belle Vernon, and was retired from Fisher Body - GM Corp., where he worked as a presser/welder. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, where he served in the U.S. Army and was the recipient of the Purple Heart, a life member of the Fairhope Rod & Gun Club and was an active member of its bowling league. Mr. Stefanick was a resident of Victoria House, Monessen, for the past year and a half. He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael H. Stefanick, of North Belle Vernon, and Marti and Mary Stefanick, of Belle Vernon, four grandchildren, Beth Ann Stefanick, Michael Ryan Stefanick, Matthew David Stefanick and Brandi Lynn Stefanick, three step-grandchildren, Brittney, Ben and Chelsea, and three great- grandchildren, Jesse, Thomas and Kirsten Marie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Marie Searles Stefanick, on Oct. 23, 2005, daughter, Mary Ann Stefanick, two sons, Mark Stefanick and Matthew Stefanick Jr., brother, Rudolph P. Stefanick, and sister, Blanche Yetsconish. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon (724-929-6184). A Prayer Service will be held Friday, June 15, at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at noon in St. Sebastian R.C. Church. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Members of St. Sebastian parish will pray the rosary for the departed soul of Matthew Stefanick on Thursday at 3 p.m. Condolences accepted for the family at the funeral home Web site, www.parzynskifuneralhome.com
