Obituary

Mark E. Bennett, 90, of Belle Vernon, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, in Havencrest Nursing Home. A son of the late Joseph and Sophia Kostelac Bennett, he was born in Fayette City on Jan. 3, 1916. He was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, American Legion Post 659, the East Belle Vernon Athletic Club and the Belle Vernon Musical Society. Formerly of Arnold City, Mark had lived in Belle Vernon for the past 40 years, retired from Mathies Mine, and he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Hannah Sethman Bennett, two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jeffrey Pendo and Debbie and Jeffrey Gantner, all of Belle Vernon, one son and daughter-in-law, Mark Butch and Nora Bennett, of Fayette City, one sister, Joan Venable, of Cleveland, Ohio, six grandchildren, Eric Bennett and wife Mimoza, Chuck Bennett and wife Jill, Brian Bennett, Shawn Pendo, Jennifer Pendo, Tom Gantner and wife Kristina, and Scott Gantner, and two great-grandchildren, Madison Bennett and Zachary Gantner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred Severovic, Mary Bieleski and Goldie Ercegovic, and two brothers, Nick and Mike Bennett. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC. and CREMATION SERVICE, a Golden Rule Member Firm, www.fergusonfuneralhome.net, (724-929-5300), 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon. A Blessing Service will be in the funeral home Friday, Dec. 15, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Sebastian R.C. Church at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. On Thursday, the Rosary will be prayed in the funeral home at 3 p.m., led by members of St. Sebastian Parish, and American Legion Post 659 will meet to hold services at 7 p.m.
