Joseph Halgus; 89; of Belle Vernon (Arnold City); died Wednesday; June 14; 2006; at 10:10 a.m. in Mon Valley Hospital; Carroll Township; after a brief illness. Born Nov. 11; 1916; in McKees Rocks; he was the son of the late Peter and Mary Wozniak Halgas. A lifelong resident of Washington Township; Mr. Halgus was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church; Belle Vernon; and he was a retired mine foreman from J&L Coal Co. He is survived by his wife; Dorothy Bice Halgus; to whom he was married 66 years; a son and daughter-in-law; Dr. Joseph and Carol Halgus; of West Palm Beach; Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law; Janet and Julius Petrosky; of Belle Vernon; a brother and sister-in-law; Rudy and Virginia Halgas; of Belle Vernon; a sister; Genevieve Zema; of Murrysville; three grandchildren; Jodie and Shawn Dale; Christopher Halgus; and Stacy and Eric Freed; two great-grandchildren; Jenna Dale and Katia Freed; two sisters-in-law; Stella Yanak and Nellie Halgas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Ernie and Mack Halgas. Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME; family owned and operated; 626 Broad Ave.; Belle Vernon (724-929-6183). A Prayer Service will be held Saturday; June 17 at 9 a.m. in the funeral home; followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Sebastian R.C. Church with the Rev. Charles P. Esposito; parochial vicar; as celebrant. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. On Friday; members of St. Sebastian parish will pray the rosary for the departed soul of Joseph Halgus at 3 p.m.; and services will be conducted by the North Belle Vernon Fire Department at 7 p.m.; and the Belle Vernon Knights of Columbus; at 8 p.m.; all in the funeral home.
