Obituary

Joseph Halgus, 89, of Belle Vernon (Arnold City), died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at 10:10 a.m. in Mon Valley Hospital, Carroll Township, after a brief illness. Born Nov. 11, 1916, in McKees Rocks, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary Wozniak Halgas. A lifelong resident of Washington Township, Mr. Halgus was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, Belle Vernon, and he was a retired mine foreman from J&L Coal Co. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Bice Halgus, to whom he was married 66 years, a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Joseph and Carol Halgus, of West Palm Beach, Fla., a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Julius Petrosky, of Belle Vernon, a brother and sister-in-law, Rudy and Virginia Halgas, of Belle Vernon, a sister, Genevieve Zema, of Murrysville, three grandchildren, Jodie and Shawn Dale, Christopher Halgus, and Stacy and Eric Freed, two great-grandchildren, Jenna Dale and Katia Freed, two sisters-in-law, Stella Yanak and Nellie Halgas, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernie and Mack Halgas. Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon (724-929-6183). A Prayer Service will be held Saturday, June 17 at 9 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Sebastian R.C. Church with the Rev. Charles P. Esposito, parochial vicar, as celebrant. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. On Friday, members of St. Sebastian parish will pray the rosary for the departed soul of Joseph Halgus at 3 p.m., and services will be conducted by the North Belle Vernon Fire Department at 7 p.m., and the Belle Vernon Knights of Columbus, at 8 p.m., all in the funeral home.
