Obituary

Michael P. Guerra, 88, of Monessen, died Friday, May 19, 2006, in Monongahela Valley Hospital Inc. He was born in Monessen on Oct. 28, 1917, the son of the late Virgillo Joe Guerra and Maria Rossi Guerra. He was a life-long resident of Monessen, a graduate of Monessen High School, and a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church, were he served as Eucharistic Minister, the Epiphany Holy Name Society, the church choir, and St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Legion of Mary, the Knights of Columbus Council 954, a past member and secretary of the Monessen Food Pantry, and American Legion Post 28. Mr. Guerra had worked for American Chain and Cable Company, Pages Division, in Monessen for 37 years, and Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., Allenport Plant for 10 years before retiring. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army during the European and African Campaign. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Gloria Forty Guerra, three sons, Michael Guerra and David Guerra, both of Las Vegas, Nev., and Gary Cope, of Monessen, three daughters, Sandy Guerra, of West Palm Beach, Fla., Diane Guerra of Chicago, Ill., and Carla Runfola, of Monessen, two sisters-in-law, Gina Guerra, of Charleroi, and Eleanor Clark and husband Kenneth, of Belle Vernon, five grandchildren, Christine and Dillon Guerra, Jan Runfola, Jill Brown, and his special grandson, Matthew Hlodan, and by nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Osinsky Guerra, and three brothers, Louis, Joseph and James Guerra. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 441 Reed Ave., Monessen (724-684-8750). Services will be held Monday, May 22, beginning with a 9:30 a.m. Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord R.C. Church. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Services will be conducted on Sunday by members of American Legion Post 28 at 7:15 p.m. and by the Knights of Columbus Council 954 at 8 p.m.
