Theodore E. Acklin Sr.; 70; of Newell; died Monday; Jan. 30; 2006; in his home following a 15-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). He was born Nov. 17; 1935; in Jefferson Township; Fayette County; a son of the late Ockle and Julia Kovach Acklin. He was a member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church; Belle Vernon. Mr. Acklin was retired from Christie Park; McKeesport; as a welder. Surviving are his wife of 51 years; Betty Hela Acklin; two sons; Theodore E. Acklin Jr. and wife Rochelle; of Newell; and Gregory Acklin and wife Vicki; of Ruffsdale; a daughter; Sheryl Kaniski and husband Mark; of Hagerstown; Md.; two brothers and one sister; David Acklin and wife Emma; Ockie Acklin and wife Linda; and Betty Cabala; all of Ohio; and three grandchildren; Nicholas Kaniski; Dina Acklin and Catherine Kaniski. There was no public viewing. Interment was private for the family. Arrangements were handled by the ELEY-McCRORY FUNERAL HOME INC.; Fayette City.
