Obituary

Miriam E. Diehl, 77, of New Eagle, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004 in Mon Valley Hospital. A daughter of the late Arthur E. and Hazel Reeves Sphar, she was born in Charleroi on May 10, 1927. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Monongahela, the Eastern Star, Chapter 108 and attended the Edwards Chapel United Methodist Church in Finleyville. Mrs. Diehl was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling with her family. Formerly of Belle Vernon, she had resided in New Eagle since 1960. Survivors include her husband of 46 years, George L. Diehl, two sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Ernest F. and Rebecca DeLuca of Jefferson, and Jerry L. and Annette DeLuca of Bordentown, N.J., one sister, Adoree McNabb of Attleboro, Mass., one sister-in-law, Mary Jane Sphar of Pittsburgh, and five grandchildren, Heather A. Mullennex and husband Kevin of Parsons, W.Va., Adoree K. DeLuca of Donora, Steven J. DeLuca and wife Alyssa of Pittsburgh, Nicholas E. Klus of Charleston, W.Va., and Scott R. DeLuca of Bethel Park. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur F. Sphar. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC. and CREMATION SERVICE, a Golden Rule Member Firm, (724-929-5300), 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon. Funeral services will be in the funeral home on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Marjorie E. Lindahl, pastor of Edwards Chapel United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Eastern Star Chapter 108 will meet in the funeral home to hold services Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Edwards Chapel Church.
