Obituary

Jay N. Polkabla, 68, of Monessen, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, in Canonsburg Hospital. Born Oct. 21, 1935, in Monessen, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Mabel Childs Polkabla. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the City of Monessen as code enforcement officer and building inspector. He worked with the Monessen Redevelopment Authority, was co-owner of Union Realty and also served part-time as building inspector for the Borough of Stockdale. Mr. Polkabla was a 1953 graduate of Monessen High School and a 1957 graduate of Washington & Jefferson College. He served with the National Guard, 28th Division of Monessen. Mr. Polkabla was a life member of Monessen Elks 773 and belonged to the Lions Club of Monessen, where he received the Melvin Jones award in 2003. He also belonged to Epiphany of Our Lord Church in Monessen and had attended the Belle Vernon Church of the Nazarene. Jay is survived by his wife, Julia Tylosky Polkabla, one son and daughter-in-law, John and Linda Polkabla of Canal Fulton, Ohio, one daughter and son-in-law, Julann and Frank Tenuta of Belle Vernon, five grandchildren, John and Nicole Polkabla and Emily, Natalie and Benjamin Tenuta, one sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Gerald Wilhelm of Wheeling, W.Va., and two nephews and one niece, Daniel and Jeff Wilhelm and Beth Ann Brody. Family and friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., a Golden Rule member, 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen, where services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, Aug. 25, at l0 a.m. with the Rev. J.E. Mitchell of Belle Vernon Church of the Nazarene. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Monessen Lions Club will conduct a service in the funeral home Monday at 7 p.m.
