Obituary

Domenic Chess Marasco, 87, of Market Street, Belle Vernon, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, in his home. A son of the late Frank and Philomena Ruggiero Marasco, be was born in Belle Vernon on Oct. 29, 1916. He was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, AARP, Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659, the 29th Infantry Division Post 92 of Philadelphia, and the East Belle Vernon Athletic Club. Mr. Marasco was the Belle Vernon tax collector from 1950 to 1954 and served for 30 years on the board of the Belle Vernon Municipal Authority, retiring in 1995. He was a construction worker for Local 286 in Brownsville and served in Europe with the U.S. Army during World War II. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Edmund Santini of Emerald Isle, N.C., one sister and brother, Gilda and John Marasco, both of Belle Vernon, and two granddaughters, Shane Santini of Atlanta, Ga., and Kelly Santini of Wilmington, N.C. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Mary Volpi Marasco, on Oct. 12, 1998, and six sisters, Rose Checci, Teresina Marasco, Margaret Duronio, Teresa Menzel, Josephine Jarouse and Mary Spina. Friends will be received in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC. and CREMATION SERVICE, a Golden Rule Member Firm, 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, (724-929-5300), on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p .m. A Blessing Service will be in the Funeral Home on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. with the Rev. Ronald Cyktor Jr., parochial vicar, officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. On Tuesday, the rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Tuesday at 3 p.m. led by members of St. Sebastian Parish, and Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 will hold services in the funeral home at 7 p.m.
