Theresa V. Checchi; 84; formerly of Belle Vernon; died Thursday; March 18; 2004; in Manor Care; Bethel Park. A daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Nickolette DeSimone; she was born in Belle Vernon on Aug. 19; 1919. She was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church and the Anita Garibaldi; both of Belle Vernon. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon; she had worked at the former Charleroi-Monessen Hospital from 1971 until her retirement in 1981. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law; Marie Sandvig of Penn Hills and Arleen and Thomas Takach of Bethel Park; one brother; Samuel DeSimone of Texas; and four grandchildren; Chris and Renee Sandvig and Melissa and Jennifer Takach. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband; Roger Checchi; on July 29; 1966; one sister; Rose Traversari; and two brothers; Tony and Ernest DeSimone. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC. and CREMATION SERVICE; (724-929-5300); 700 Broad Ave.; Belle Vernon. A blessing service will be in the funeral home on Saturday; March 20; at 12:30 p.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Sebastian R.C. Church at 1 p.m. with Father Lawrence Manchas as celebrant. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
