LaVerne Stewart; 79; of Brownstown; Fayette City; went to be with her Lord on Sunday; Aug. 31; 2003; at Jefferson Medical Center Hospital. She was born in Arnold City on Jan. 19; 1924; a daughter of the late William and Margaret Jones Gregor. Mrs. Stewart was a member of the Fayette City Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and a retired employee of Corning Glass Co.; Charleroi Plant. She is survived by her husband; Melrose Stewart; one son; William M. Stewart and wife Sandy of Fayette City; one daughter; Linda Astle and husband John of Fayette City; one sister; Shirley Osborne and husband Bert Lee; four grandchildren; Chet Burnside; Jennifer Richter; William A. Stewart and Ryan Astle; and five great-grandchildren; Ashley Burnside; Keith Richter Jr.; Mackenzie Astle; and Jocelyn and Michael Tiernan. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by one granddaughter; Amy Lynn Burnside. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the ELEY-McCRORY FUNERAL HOME INC.; 334 Main St.; Fayette City; and Thursday; Sept. 4; until 11 a.m.; the hour of funeral service with the Rev. Bryn Cinelli; her pastor; officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
