Obituary

Samuel R. Scaccia, 90, of Belle Vernon (Rostraver Township), died Friday, May 9, 2003, at 12:15 p.m. in Havencrest Nursing Center, Carroll Township. He was born Oct. 5, 1913, in Charleroi, a son of the late Ross and Rosella Scaccia. He was a resident of the Belle Vernon community since 1948 and retired from Corning Glass Works, Charleroi, where he had been employed as a machine operator. He was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, Belle Vernon. He was a member of the Tenth Street Athletic Club of Charleroi, and was a past officer of the Corning Credit Union, Charleroi. Survivors include his wife, Betty Patterson Scaccia, to whom he was married 58 years, one son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Connie Scaccia of Belle Vernon, one daughter and son-in-law, Linda Jo and Larry Smith of Harrison City, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Wanda Scaccia of Speers, and Anthony and May Scaccia of Charleroi, one sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Cy Hayduk of Charleroi, five grandchildren, Sheryl Anthony, Christi Shook, Aaron Smith, Natalie Smith, and Timothy Smith, two great-grandchildren, Jordan Anthony and Morgan Anthony. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra Kay Scaccia, two sisters, Rose Falcone and Ann Celashi, and one brother, Samuel Scaccia. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME, Family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, where a prayer service will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, Belle Vernon with the Rev. John R. Cindric, pastor, V.F.,as celebrant. Entombment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Members of St. Sebastian Parish will pray the rosary for the departed soul of Samuel R. Scaccia on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. Belle Vernon Knights of Columbus Council 3026 will hold a wake service Sunday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
