Obituary

Ferdinand F. Fred Santoro, 79, of Belle Vernon, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at 6 a.m. in Mon Valley Hospital, Carroll Township. Born Oct. 19, 1923, in Monessen, he was a son of the late Anthony and Anna Cirincione Santoro. He was a lifelong resident of the Belle Vernon community, a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Belle Vernon and a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Santoro was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Monessen Plant, where he worked as a scaleman. He had worked as a foreman for Copperweld in Glassport and currently worked at the Pasta Shoppe in Monessen. Mr. Santoro served on the Belle Vernon Borough Municipal Authority as secretary/treasurer, the Belle Vernon Planning and Zoning Board, was associated with the voting process in Fayette County, and was one of the co-founders and treasurer of the Belle Vernon traveling Black Hawks midget football league. He also was a member of Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 and the Monessen Elks. Survivors include his wife, Justina Lombardi Santoro, one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald J. and Donna Santoro of Belle Vernon, one daughter and son-in-law, Jami Lynn and Max Chywski of Donora, two sisters and one brother-in-law, Carmella and Michael Bamburak and Mary Kalcevich, all of Clairton, two sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy Santoro of Charleroi and Amelia and Frank Kolodychak of Donora, four grandchildren, Adam and Abby Santoro and Brett and Connor Chywski, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Anthony Santoro, one brother, Sam Santoro, and one brother-in-law, Leonard Kalcevich. Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon. A Prayer Service will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Sebastian R.C. Church with the Rev. John R. Cindric V.F., pastor, as celebrant. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. On Friday, members of St. Sebastian Parish will pray the rosary for the departed soul of Ferdinand F. Fred Santoro at 3 p.m., and Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 will conduct services at 7 p.m., both in the funeral home.
