Obituary

LaVerne McCrory, 70 of Allenport, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, in Justine's personal Care Home in Allenport. She was born Aug. 13, 1923, a daughter of the late Julius and Bertha Geiser Burry. She was educated in the Allenport Public Schools and graduated from Charleroi High School in 1941. She received her registered nurse certification from the Allegheny General School of Nursing in 1945. She served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of the U.S. Air Force during World War II. She served at army bases in Richmond, Va. And at Seymour Johnson base in North Dakota. Following the war, she worked on the second surgical floor of the former Charleroi-Monessen Hospital. She was a member of the Allenport United Methodist Church, Mon Valley Nurses Association, and the Yough-A-Mon camping club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Edgar Burry of Allenport. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, John Carl McCrory, and four children: son, Chris Lee McCrory and his wife, Joanne, of Bayport, N.Y., daughter, Judy McCrory Paich and husband, Richard, of Aliquippa, son, John David McCrory and his wife Lucretia of Roscoe, and daughter, Jeannie Lu McCrory of Allenport, three grandchildren, Jeremiah Richard Paich and Christy McCrory Paich of Aliquippa and Laurel Saxon McCrory of Roscoe, three sisters, Minetta Farquahar of Allenport, Marie Regula of Charleroi, and Ruth Chester of Roscoe, and sisters-in-law, June Dunlap of Fayette City and Katherine Mooers of Belle Vernon, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the ED MELENYZER FUNERAL HOMES INC., Roscoe, where a funeral service will be Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Joan Rousseaux officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. .
