Lena Sakalik; 87; of Perry Avenue; Belle Vernon; died Thursday; June 27; 2002; in Mon Valley Hospital. A daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Kovatch; she was born Aug. 17; 1914; in Fairhope. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon; she was Protestant by faith. She retired in 1983 as a custodian at Bellmar Junior High School. Survivors include a daughter; Joan Mackey; with whom she made her home; Joan’s fiance; Sonny Jones; two grandchildren; Dennis Houseman and Kimberly Ries; nine great-grandchildren; and her ex-son-in-law; Terry Mackey of Ohio. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband; George Sakalik; and a grandson; Robert Houseman in 1994. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC.; a Golden Rule Member Firm; 700 Broad Avenue; Belle Vernon. Funeral services will be in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Tim McConville; pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
