Obituary

Lena Sakalik, 87, of Perry Avenue, Belle Vernon, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, in Mon Valley Hospital. A daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Kovatch, she was born Aug. 17, 1914, in Fairhope. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon, she was Protestant by faith. She retired in 1983 as a custodian at Bellmar Junior High School. Survivors include a daughter, Joan Mackey, with whom she made her home, Joan's fiance, Sonny Jones, two grandchildren, Dennis Houseman and Kimberly Ries, nine great-grandchildren, and her ex-son-in-law, Terry Mackey of Ohio. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Sakalik, and a grandson, Robert Houseman in 1994. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., a Golden Rule Member Firm, 700 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon. Funeral services will be in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Tim McConville, pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
