Obituary

Nicholas Chabalka, 79, of Rostraver Township, died Tuesday, April 16, 2002, in Mon Valley Hospital, Carroll Township. Born in North Charleroi on Jan. 4, 1923, he was the son of the late Alexander and Pearl Chabalka. He was a graduate of Charleroi High School and Washington and Jefferson College. Mr. Chabalka was a general agent for Paul Revere, Chubb, and United Life Insurance companies. He also worked as a job developer with the Private Industry Council for several years. Having served with the U.S. Army Air Corps, he was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion in Monessen and Belle Vernon VFW. Mr. Chabalka was a member of the Church of St. Anne, Rostraver Township, and the Belle Vernon Knights of Columbus, Council 3026. He is survived by his wife, Betty Lenart Chabalka, three daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and Gary Prescott of Columbus, Ohio, Elaine and Frank Trozzo of Brevard, N.C., and Jane and Michael Hrycyk of Pulaski, one stepson, Jules Vanderscott of Rostraver Township, one sister, Ann Perchesky of North Charleroi, five grandchildren, Justin Prescott, Stacey and Katie Trozzo, Antonette Hrycyk, and Will Nichols Vanderscott. In addition to his parents, Mr. Chabalka was preceded in death by his first wife, Antonette Jerub Chabalka, and one sister, Olga Jakubs. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. in the JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Sweeney Plan/Rostraver Township. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 1:30 p.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 2 p.m. at the Church of St. Anne, Rostraver Township with the Rev. Ronald L. Simboli, his pastor, presiding. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery, Rostraver Township. The Knights of Columbus, Council 3026, will have a service Friday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
